“Without You” is a poem that was written the day I heard of Gary R. Hess’ grandmother’s death. The author describes the poem as follows, “It definitely isn’t the best poem I have ever written, but it encapsulates my mind on that day. It says exactly what I felt and what I still feel now. My grandmother was a wonderful woman, although she did have her faults.”

WITHOUT YOU by Gary R. Hess
I spent my days with you
gossiping and rambling nonsense.
Often times you seemed not to care,
but I know you did.
You showed me many times before,
and I wish to have shown you so much more
but now you’re gone–
away from me.
Away from all the grief and pain
which has hurt us all in times, again–
but now it’s you.
You left me with a hole unfilled
and this hole is ever big
with this pain I feel.
This suffering which twists my soul
and squeezes out the ever mold–
left from our times gone untold
with nothing left but this drop…
of you.
