Sports Poetry: “Marching On” by Gary R. Hess – A Poem About the KC Chiefs

by Gary R. Hess

Beaten but not defeated
the Chiefs march on.
Under center, Smith’s war cry
rattles the aggressive line.
He demands the ball.
Armor crashes and echoes
throughout the land.

Maclin soars by the sideline
and Kelce slants left.
Smith lurches forward
and ducks the giant DT.
He fligs his arm
ad fires a missile left.
Kelce got it!
Juke one, the linebacker misses.
Rumbling like thunder he goes.
Safeties don’t stand a chance.
They lash on to his jersey
but slide off like snails
but manage to slow him down.
A corner comes and chases him out of bounds.
First down!
The Chiefs march on.
