THE OLYMPICS 2016
by Gary R. Hess

As the Olympics begin
the world turns its eyes
from the ever growing hatred among us
to those who inspire us.
We watch them dive and swim and dance
in one of the most corrupt nations on Earth,
as we ignore their pleas for help from thefts
so we can watch them win gold.

We praise the nations readiness and thoughtfulness
as the athletes run from buildings and return with nothing,
not even their jerseys.

We await the game of baskets as teams are afraid to port
and instead sleep on cruise liners.

We await the events with entire nations banned for drugs
while we ignorantly conclude more will not be implicated.

As the Olympics begin
we cross our fingers for peace
as our people ignore the peace within our own borders
and within the participants’ home borders.

These Apocolympics will begin and end
in the time it takes four terrorist-attacks in Europe.

As the world turns its eyes
our people will die and suffer
as billions are spent on advertising energy drinks and flip flops.

As we turn our eyes.

  1. As peace is the victim through out the world today due to differences between the countries, In Rio Olympics a healthy fight is being fought for their place in different competitions. This may augur well for the warring counties – to unite and give peace a chance.
